The pair battled out an extraordinary men's Olympic last in Rio de Janeiro a month ago, with Murray in the end winning after over four hours to assert a second progressive gold decoration.

Thursday's attract matched them the opening elastic at Glasgow's hard-court Emirates Arena, with Kyle Edmund then going up against Guido Pella.

The British group, captained by Leon Smith, conquered Serbia in the current year's quarterfinals, while Daniel Orsanic's Argentina crushed Italy.
